Free Valentine’s Day iPhone Wallpaper

2 / 2 / 155 / 5 / 15

Happy Valentine’s Day darlings! I think this may be one of my favorite iPhone wallpapers I’ve designed so far.

During our first year of marriage I was finishing my last year of college, and my husband and I often had opposite schedules. He used to leave me little love notes in my lunch box, and I would leave messages for him on our bathroom mirror. It was a nice way to let each other know we were thinking of the other. I treasured those little messages and that’s what inspired me for this month’s iPhone wallpaper.

I really need to start leaving him notes again. Plus even a simple lipstick print can send a very sexy message. I know my husband loves it.

Enjoy!

Christmas Glitter iPhone Wallpaper

12 / 17 / 145 / 5 / 15

Christmas always get me in the mood for all things sparkly. The lights, the glitter and the glow are all so warm and festive. I created two designs this month so you can add some festive flare to both your home screen and lock screen. Sometimes wallpaper designs look a little busy against all the apps on the home screen, but the glitter simply pops.

Enjoy the sparkle, and have yourself a merry little Christmas everyone!

Free Printable Christmas Gift Tags {Sister Inspirations}

11 / 14 / 145 / 5 / 15

In an effort to get a jump-start on Christmas, we decided to focus November’s Sister Inspirations on Christmas gift tags. We wanted to design something that would be a great last minute detail but still add a fun finished look to our gifts.

I used three traditional Christmas expressions for my tags, then I designed a red version and a green version of each.

The phrases I used are “No peeking,” “Jolly Holly-Day” and of course “Merry Christmas.” Feel free to print as many as you like for your own personal use.

Amy, over at The Happy Tulip, infused her sense of humor into the gift tags she designed by adding famous Christmas movie quotes including my favorite: “Merry Christmas you filthy animal” from Home Alone 2. I do love those movies. Well, the first two anyway. But I digress, seriously check out Amy’s tags because they are adorable and hilarious.

Two Coconut Milk Ice Cream Recipes {Sister Inspirations}

10 / 14 / 145 / 5 / 15

Welcome to the October edition of Sister Inspirations!

Amy and I have both recently started to eat a primal/paleo diet with our families, and that became our theme for this month. My mother-in-law bought me the KitchenAid ice cream attachment for my birthday that I’ve been wanting to try out, which gave us an excuse to try our hands at coconut milk ice cream and all the fixins’.

Amy is sharing two delicious homemade chocolate shell recipes and a toffee crumble over at The Happy Tulip. The mint shell pairs really well with my coffee mocha ice cream and I threw the toffee crumble into my snickerdoodle ice cream. The result was fabulous.

If you don’t have an ice cream maker you can just freeze the batter. Using the KitchenAid makes it a little creamier, but I tried both way, and they both were delicious.

Coffee Mocha Ice Cream

Servings: 4

Ingredients

1 can coconut milk
1/4 cup honey
2 tablespoons instant coffee
1 tablespoon vanilla

Directions

Add all ingredients to a blender and blend on medium for 2-3 minutes, until mixture is creamy.
At this point you can use an ice cream maker and follow their directions. Or you can also pour mixture into a freezer safe container and freeze for 3-4 hours or until desired consistency.

Snickerdoodle Ice Cream with Toffee Crumble

Servings: 4

Ingredients

1 can coconut milk
1/4 cup honey
4 teaspoons molasses
1 tablespoon vanilla
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
Amy’s Toffee crumble

Directions

Add all ingredients except the toffee to a blender and blend on medium for 2-3 minutes, until mixture is creamy.
At this point you can use an ice cream maker and follow their directions. Or you can also pour mixture into a freezer safe container and freeze for 3-4 hours or until desired consistency. Make sure to add the toffee crumble before the ice cream is frozen.

Free Download: Adventure Wall Art

10 / 11 / 145 / 5 / 15

This is a design that I have had floating around in my head for a couple months now. I never could get it quite right for an iPhone wallpaper though. I decided to branch out and make free printable wall art. The quote is one of my favorites from Beauty and the Beast. I love the imagery of the freed dandelion seeds floating away in the wind as she dreams of adventure. It’s one of my favorite scenes.

Go out and find adventure.

Slow Cooker Primal Chili with Sweet Potatoes

10 / 7 / 145 / 5 / 15

I have been struggling for years to make meals that would benefit my hypoglycemic husband without spiking his blood sugar. Turns out, the primal diet has been very beneficial. We are still in the early stages of implementing the primal diet into our life, but I have already seen a huge difference. He hasn’t had a blood sugar crash in weeks. It’s been challenging to adapt, but we feel so much better when we stick with it. And the primal meals I have made so far have been delicious.

This slow cooker primal chili has been a recipe that I adapted so we can still get that cool weather chili fix. My husband doesn’t always like sweet potatoes, but he liked it as non-traditional addition to the chili.

Slow Cooker Primal Chili with Sweet Potatoes

Servings: 8

Ingredients

2 pounds ground beef
2 – 14.5 oz cans diced tomatoes
1 – 8 oz can tomato sauce
6 oz can tomato paste
10 oz baby bella mushrooms, sliced
2 red bell peppers, diced
1-2 large sweet potatoes, cubed
1 cup water
4-6 large garlic cloves, minced
1-2 shallots or 1 large red onion, minced
1 tablespoon fresh cilantro, minced
3-4 tablespoons chili powder
1 teaspoon paprika
2 teaspoons dried mustard
1 tablespoon cumin
1 teaspoon ground black pepper
2 tablespoons butter

Directions

Heat butter on medium-high heat in medium frying pan. Add shallots (or onion) and garlic to the pan and cook on low until shallots are translucent. Add shallots and garlic to the slow cooker.

Season ground beef with salt and pepper to taste then add to the pan. Once browned, drain and add to the slow cooker.

Add remaining ingredients and cook on high for 4 hours or low for 8. Enjoy!

Free Fox iPhone Wallpaper: September Edition

10 / 4 / 145 / 5 / 15

Yes, I know it’s already October and yes, I know this is late. But life gets busy and I’ve accepted the fact that I’m not perfect a long time ago. Better late than never. I’m not going to lie, in honor of me designing a fox iPhone wallpaper, I decided to watch “What Does the Fox Say?” for the first time today… and I’ve had it stuck in my head ever since. I found it entertaining, and laughed probably more than I should have. I know I’m a little late on that bandwagon, but again, better late than never.

WHAT DOES THE FOX SAY? Ring-ding-ding-ding-dingeringeding!

You’re welcome.

Two DIY Geometric Concrete Projects {Sister Inspirations}

9 / 26 / 145 / 5 / 15

Hello, friends! We are excited to be back with a Sister Inspirations post again after our long hiatus. This month we have been crushing on lots of geometric objects, so we decided to create our own. We chose concrete for our material because of its great modern, industrial vibe. Concrete is also surprisingly easy to work with and very inexpensive. The mix costs less than $5 and we hardly used much of the bag for our little projects.

We also have the templates for you to download so that you can easily make your own!

Amy designed an adorable hexagon bowl that is perfect for storing small objects like jewelry. I’ve been obsessed with succulents for quite awhile and I’ve been wanting to make a little planter for my coffee table.

You’ll need:

Quikrete concrete mix, photo paper, packing tape, a printer, scissors, vaseline, and toilet paper roll. We accidentally bought the commercial grade Quikrete, which was completely unnecessary.

Process:

1. Print out the template on photo paper.

2. Cut out and tape up the sides well with packing tape.

3. Coat the inside of the paper with vaseline.

4. Tape off the bottom of the toilet paper roll.

5. Take out any large rock pieces from the concrete mix.

6. Mix the Quikrete with a little bit of water at a time, until you have the consistency of thick pancake batter.

7. Pour concrete into your mold, push the toilet paper down in the mix until you have your desired depth to form the inside of the planter.

8. Let it set until it seems solid but not completely set. Around 18 hours.

9. Peel off the paper, remove toilet paper roll, and continue to let it cure. It should be fully cured after 24 or more hours.

I love the juxtaposition of industrial and natural. You could put a candle in it if you prefer, but I’m in love with the petite planter idea.

Be sure to check out Amy’s gorgeous little geometric bowl over at The Happy Tulip. You can download her template there.

August iPhone Wallpaper and My One Year Birthday

8 / 31 / 145 / 5 / 15

Friday was my one year blog anniversary! So much has happened in the past year and life has been busy, but it will be exciting to see where year two takes me. I feel like I have a better focus for where I want my blog to go this coming year and I’m brimming with ideas. I just need to make the time for it all. I know it’s been awhile since I’ve posted anything other than wallpapers, but Amy and I have gotten back to work and have the next six months of Sister Inspirations planned out. So look for the September edition within the next few weeks.

One of my goals for my blog was to design an iPhone wallpaper every month. I did it! I’ve seen a lot of growth in my designs and I was even featured on the blog Lines Across. When Rachel posted her list of summer iPhone wallpapers last year, it was actually my original inspiration start designing them myself. I was ecstatic when I saw she included one of mine in her list this year. Enjoy my 13th design and hopefully many more to come.
